June 23, 2009It's Summer!Hey, would you look at that? It's the middle of June. We've gone past the longest day of the year and are now heading full speed into fall. Just that pesky matter of July and August to get through. Well, since my last post, a lot has happened. JT and I celebrated three years of marriage. My sister and her boyfriend came out for a visit. Then, Dad and Grandma came out for a visit. It was a nice parade of family, and we were fortunate that the weather cooperated as well. Here's me with Grandma (who reads this blog -- hi, Grandma!) JT and I went with dad and Grandma to the new Capitol Visitors Center -- very cool -- and to the national botanic garden. It was really nice to look at all the flowers, including this begonia: I also joined Elspeth on a verrrrry long bus ride to see Sara in Brooklyn. Highlights of that trip included visiting Brooklyn General (love!) and putting together a delicous cheese dinner with help from the folks at Stinky Bklyn. Great little shop and super helpful! Try the Seal Bay Triple Cream. It's phenomenal. **** The garden is exploding. Here's a picture I took on June 8 (when I intended to blog!). Since then, we've had about 5" of rain and all of the crops are super-happy. The tomatoes, squashes and peppers have all flowered. At this point it's just watering and waiting! **** In puppy news, Sam has gotten over his fear of water. He jumps in the fountain by the dog park after playtime. And he's figured out that the hose is not a torture device, but rather a giver of water. **** I am still knitting. I have two projects on the needles. One is a secret and will be revealed in good time (by the end of the summer, I hope). The other is the Apres Surf Hoodie, for me: I am knitting it in Sundara Fingering Silky Merino, which is heaven to work with. I've completed the back and am onto the first sleeve. I am still trying to decide if I am going to knit it as designed -- as a pullover -- or split the front and turn it into a cardigan. I think a cardigan would see more wear from me, so I need to figure out how to do the maths. I have one and a half sleeves to knit before I make a decision! Finally, some crafty news: After thinking about it and talking about it for a long time (years!), I broke down and ordered a sewing machine and enrolled myself into a learn-to-sew class. I'm not sure what will become of this, but it's fun to learn about a new craft. I checked out a bunch of sewing books from the library and am trying to learn the lingo. And I bought a tiny bit of fabric, as called for on the supplies list for class. Sewing commences in mid-July, so check back! Posted by Ann at June 23, 2009 03:21 PMComments
my goodness, your grandmother is adorable! what a busy month :) Posted by: mai at June 23, 2009 06:42 PMSounds like things are going well. The Apres Surf looks great. Posted by: Jasmine at June 24, 2009 07:53 AMYou're going to like sewing! Love the fabric choices :) I'm jealous you have hydrangeas - I always wanted to have them and then change the pH around different plants to get the different colors... Posted by: rebeaker at June 25, 2009 12:24 PMCongratulations on your anniversay! Good luck with your new sewing adventure. I need to get myself to a sewing class! Posted by: Vicki at June 26, 2009 10:41 AMYou hopefully will enjoy sewing as much as knitting! Being creative with fiber is SO much fun. Your garden is doing well; the hydrangeas are beautiful. Posted by: Jean at June 26, 2009 07:26 PMso glad you're having a nice summer so far. I hope you'll enjoy sewing. What machine did you end up getting? I'm still "practicing" on my cheapo Singer. Posted by: monica at June 30, 2009 11:35 PMWhat a cute picture of you and your grandmother! And how special that she could visit you. Your garden looks great! And congrats on selecting a sewing machine and lovely fabric. Can't wait to see what develops. :) Posted by: Elizabeth at July 2, 2009 09:31 AMYay! Glad to hear you are doing well. I have been on a huge sewing kick lately too and looking forward to getting my move out of the way so I can finally buy my own sewing machine. Can't wait to see your first FO! Posted by: molly at July 7, 2009 07:10 AMLooking forward to seeing the results of your sewing adventures!!! Posted by: Sneaksleep at July 27, 2009 08:32 AMHello. We need anything politically important rationed out like Pez: small, sweet, and coming out of a funny, plastic head. Help me! Help to find sites on the: Acai berry juices. I found only this - acai berry fact or fiction. The powdered form of acai berries is best suited to make juices, yogurt and health drinks. Using it to override other poor nutritional habits will only waste time and money. With best wishes :-), Baylor from Emirates. Posted by: Baylor at August 15, 2009 04:30 PMGive please. I?m telling you, things are getting out of hand. Or maybe I?m discovering that things were never in my hands. Help me! I can not find sites on the: Odds to betting. I found only this - please explain betting odds. Navigating through pga championship odds to find a potential winner seems like a daunting task, as the golf season has been quite unpredictable, particularly in the first three majors. College football the not so quiet jordan stevens a leader at maine morning sentinel. Best regards , Dwight from Jordan. Posted by: Dwight at August 16, 2009 08:10 PMDid you take a help of a sociology essay writing service for your cool article? I guess that you have good essay papers performing skills. Thanks a lot for your stuff! Posted by: JenifferVM at February 5, 2010 12:00 AM |
