March 02, 2008Hello? Spring? If you live near the DC region, there's a good chance that you heard about the massive sale at the Happy Place this weekend. Holly and Aimee had promised that there would be some amazing bargains, and they did not dissapoint! Carolina and I went over lunch on Friday to snatch up some good deals. After about an hour, I felt a little dizzy, a little overstimulated by all! the! yarny! goodness! ON! SALE! (You can click on the photo for all the details.) Yes, there's a lot. But seriously, such bargains I couldn't pass up. Total cost for everything in that photo? Under $225. Total savings? Well into four digits. You see what I mean? Worth going back for, on Sunday, to scoop up some extra goodies. I told Carolina that it's one of the few times in my life that I've bought a ton of yarn without a specific project in mind--and actually felt a little remorse for not buying more. Oh well. I can't be a total yarn pig! A sale this good should be shared. And that's why, dear readers, I am going to share - with you! Walking around today, I was reflecting on all the delightful things I'm excited about for spring. To me, Spring means: What does spring mean to you? Leave your answer in the comments, and one winner at random will receive this: Two hanks of Koigu, in a color impossible to photograph but that reminds me of spring azaleas blooming, a cheerful mix of pink, salmon, orange and fuschia. Deadline for entering is Wednesday at 5 p.m. EST, and the winner will be announced on Thursday. Posted by Ann at March 2, 2008 01:15 PMComments
Ohhh what a yarn haul! holy mother, awesome haul! spring to me is a light cotton cardigan on my bicycle en route to the local's farmers market to check out the produce and fresh fruits. and granny smith apple slices in caramel! Posted by: winnie at March 2, 2008 02:46 PMHoly cow that is a lot of yarn. Nicely done. Spring means dresses and sandals and walks outside. I love spring. Posted by: Erin at March 2, 2008 02:56 PMWow, I am impressed with that haul! Spring means cherry blossoms and not seeing my breath in the apartment when I wake up in the morning. But it is clearly still winter here because I'm freezing! Posted by: molly! at March 2, 2008 04:14 PMThat is one seriously amazing haul! Oh how I wish they hadn't closed their online store. Spring means being able to wear flip-flops again, and all my favourite flowers, hyacinths and lilacs and lily of the valley. Posted by: Adrienne at March 2, 2008 04:51 PMTo me, Spring means asparagus. My inlaws have an asparagus patch in their yard and every year it is a contest to see who can see the first asparagus shoot come out of the ground. And incidentally, the shoots are purple when they first come out, not green. Posted by: Jo at March 2, 2008 07:05 PMOh my goodness! What a haul. I'm very jealous. Spring means being able to walk outside without fear of frostbite. It's been a brutal winter here in New England. Posted by: little.one at March 2, 2008 08:18 PMVery impressive stash enhancement! Spring means being able to work in the yard again, hearing the new baby birds in the big tree outside, barbecues and picnics, and getting home from work before dark. Posted by: Stephanie at March 3, 2008 04:19 AMwow!!! what a haul!!!! spring to me - being able to go outside without putting 85 layers on!! and, all the GREEN! Posted by: stacey at March 3, 2008 05:21 AMNice haul... and what a deal! To me, spring means baseball. Listening to Harry Kalas call the Phillies game while drinking iced tea and knitting. I love Spring! Posted by: Christy at March 3, 2008 09:00 AMSo that's where all the Fiesta Lusso Cashmere went! Spring to me is sunny mornings having coffee on the back deck, long bike rides and the smell of earth and new plants. Mmmmm. Posted by: Andi at March 3, 2008 09:17 AMOh, that picture just made me curse the fates for being gone all weekend... you'd described it, of course, but seeing it all laid out before my eyes makes me sooo jealous. Spring is dragging my bike up from the basement and riding it through the puddles -- and the return of the good stuff to the farmer's market. Posted by: gwen at March 3, 2008 11:02 AMWOWOW! you made out! and what a lovely haul it is! I am so excited about spring - dogwoods, cherry blossoms, and farmer's market! of course, it also means some allergies, but I can handle that with all of the fresh beauty around me! enjoy your new yarns! Posted by: lolly at March 3, 2008 12:23 PMWhat a fabulous yarn haul! Everything is so beautiful! I am jealous! Spring to me is FLIP FLOPS! And the smell of dirt and grass! I love it!! Posted by: Chrissy at March 3, 2008 12:30 PMThis must have been a big yarn sale weekend - there was a huge sale at a shop here, too. I got some good stuff, but not as much good stuff as you did :) To me, spring means not having to layer my clothes as much, Cadbury Creme Eggs, my birthday, Passover, blooming flowers - especially cherry blossoms, and a sense that some hope can be found out in the gray, cold world. Posted by: Jenna at March 3, 2008 03:45 PMTo me, spring is raking the leaves and pine needles off the back lawn, taking care not to harm the tiny purple crocuses bravely sticking their heads out of the dirt. Posted by: Kirstin at March 3, 2008 04:29 PMspring has meant different things at different times in my life. Spring growing up meant swimming time (I grew up in AZ... what can I say); in University it meant the bearing of translucently white flesh at the slightest hint of sun despite the temperature (I went to university in Seattle- what can I say :)) For flowers spring means cherry blossoms, magnolias and daffodils, it means the start of peonies in my room and walks in the gardens. spring means a dance in my step at the end of the day :) and all of holies am I blown away by that haul. WOW!!! Posted by: stinkerbell at March 3, 2008 08:35 PMSpring to me means rebirth. Flowers, grass, tree leaves, the world just becomes lush and fragrant and green. Then there are the flowers. Violets, Daffodils, Hyacinth and tulips all sprout and bloom and thrill me every year. That's an incredible haul by the way! Congrats! Posted by: Lizzy B at March 4, 2008 09:04 AMSpring means opening the windows while I drive and picnics in the park. More than that, I can't wait to find out what spring means now that I will be experiencing it for the first time with my son. Posted by: Vicki at March 4, 2008 09:41 AMWow, that is a lot of yarn! To me, Spring means Easter, forsythia blooming, a yard full of daffodils, and homegrown lettuce! Posted by: robin at March 5, 2008 07:18 AMSpring means freshly cut grass, bike rides, skirts and drinking coffee (or beer!) on the patio while knitting. Because you can't forget the knitting. Spring also means colour slowly emerging from underneath all that snow, bit by bit. Have fun with that stash! Posted by: Natalie at March 5, 2008 07:52 AMSpring means different light outside, new smells, puddles, increased energy, sunshine, new knitting projects, energy, sunshine, did I mention new knitting projects?? Posted by: Susanne at March 5, 2008 08:37 AMSpring is bright flowers, light dresses, walks in the woods, BBQs, sitting outside with friends and warm breezes :) Posted by: Jody at March 5, 2008 11:20 AMSpring means celebrating my Grandmother's birthday. When she was younger (mid-90s) it would also mean flowers blooming in her garden. And spring has ALWAYS meant spring cleaning. Posted by: Phyl at March 5, 2008 12:36 PMSpring is more sunshine, blue skies and open windows. It's pulling out the cotton and putting away the wool. And that it's time to clean, purge and reorganize. Gawd I love to do that! Posted by: Allison at March 5, 2008 01:28 PM |
