Knee Deep in It

Today, I am thankful for one thing. That I don't keep my yarn in the basement.

Actually, I'm thankful for more than that: That I don't keep my photos in the basement.

And that I have a husband who is a total gem in a crisis.

Because when your basement is under 4" of water and sewage backup, you really need a good partner.

(I'll spare you the photos.)

I was fearful something similar would happen in my apartment during the storm season here (California) ... that got me worried on a daily basis then (though I don't have a basement). I am really glad to find that precious things like yarns and photos in your house are safe! Take care ... I'm sending good thoughts your way!

oh no. i went through the same exact thing about 3 years ago. it's not fun, but you get through it. on a positive note it forced me to get rid of a lot of stuff i really didn't need.

it sounds like you didn't lose the things that meant the most to you too. keep focusing on the positive.

So sorry to hear of your flooding issues - and I'm glad that your important belongings are safe!!

Posted by: chris at June 27, 2006 04:42 AM

Oh no! Hope everything gets cleared up soon!

I'm sorry to hear your basement has collected water and sewage back-up. =( I hope you get everything back to normal soon.

I feel your pain, but only about 2" of it. We're currently cursing home ownership and Mother Nature, too. Sorry, dude.

Posted by: Erin at June 27, 2006 06:22 AM

man, that is terrible!

Hope everything cleans up in a jiffy and gets back to normal and dry!

enough with the damned rain already!

Holy crap, how horrible! I spent all day creeping down the basement looking for water. So far, so good, but I fear that with a week more of rain, it isn't going to hold out much longer.

oh NO! :(

Posted by: maeve at June 27, 2006 07:38 AM

Ugh. Stay dry!

Posted by: Shanti at June 27, 2006 07:51 AM

Oh no!! Uck, who would have thought that some rain coming in could do all of this. I'll really be hoping that this is resolved quickly for you, what a nightmare.

Ugh. Thinking good, cleansing, sanitary, DRY thoughts.

Posted by: Cindy at June 27, 2006 08:17 AM

Wow, and I thought our little trickle of water through the basement was bad. I'm glad the critical things were high and dry!

Posted by: dani at June 27, 2006 08:42 AM

Damn. That totally sucks but at least you found the silver lining. It would have been a disaster if your stash were harmed!

Ugh...sorry to hear about the flooding. We've been ok so far, but it's been close. (I live in a basement apartment.)

I know what you are going through! I cancelled a business trip because of the flooding issues in my basement (fortunately I have a giant drain in the middle of the floor which, I have discovered, is very efficient at pulling water) and fear of more roof leakage. I now know I will never spend the money to have my basement finished. A cement floor has its advantages!!

Posted by: Aimee at June 27, 2006 09:44 AM

In the library world the standard for shelving is a minimum of 6" off the floor for the bottom shelf, though in your case that probably wouldn't have been enough. One scare like this will have you leaving nothing on the floor again! What a mess. Good luck with the cleanup, and lucky you for having such a man! :)

Posted by: Heidi at June 27, 2006 12:36 PM

Well...6" might have been enough, but there's the issue of splashing while you work on the cleanup. Just to clarify...

Oh my! I am sooo sorry :( I've had a flooded basement in the past...No fun at all. I hope everything gets cleaned up for you quickly! Thank goodness for saving the yarn!

We'll save space for you on the ark.

Posted by: LauraRN at June 27, 2006 08:13 PM

Poor you! I hope everything is ok. Good luck, and be safe!

For three days I've been glued to the DC area weather news and fear the sewage backup continues. Terrible. Remember someone promised to save space for you on the ark.
