February 06, 2006Winner!I'm camera-less today, so you'll have to forgive the lack of pictures. I have, however, been knitting like a busy little bee. I've spent a lot of time at Knit Happens lately, what with a knit and nosh on Friday (or should we rename it knit and sip? Holly? Stephanie??) and then headed back there Saturday afternoon--after running errands in the rain in Georgetown (aka land of impossible weekend parking), I needed a little knitting zen. And now the Go With the Flow socks are DONE! DONE! and I even wove in the ends on Saturday at the happy place, while learning all about pot roast techniques. So, sock pictures soonly. I've even started on another little project, but you'll have to wait to see it. But for now, I have an important announcement to make: Winnie of Guavaseeds, you've won the contest!
Congratulations Winnie! Winnie was one of only two people to guess the correct color -- blue! (Go congratulate her and check out her kickass Jaywalker!) But yeah, blue -- it surprised me too. I think it's funny that most of people who know me in real life guessed green--if you'd asked me before the yarnventory, I would have said green too. But, blue makes up about 45% of my stash -- shock! I guess you'll be seeing me in a lot of blue knits in years to come. Oh, and the total yardage? Was more than you people give me credit for. I'm clocking in at 33,813 yards of yarn that I own. Yes, I gobsmacked myself. That's more than 19 miles of yarn, which is terrifying. I could knit myself from my house to Tysons Corner, via the Beltway! (Okay, that mental image cracks me up... a knitter making her way along the side of the Beltway.) In any event, Sarah of Crafty Snargle was the closest guess at 28,512, so she'll get a little something for her smarts. And to everyone else, thanks for playing! *** Okay, and now, since I have no pictures to show you, go check out the amazing new designs from the Rowan Yarns Classic line (and come back soon!). Clearly, this is where all the good designs from the Rowan shop are going now, since the Rowan 39 preview leaves a lot to be desired. But I must make this, from Rowan Classic Art:
and this, from Rowan Classic Summer (though without the odd ribbon trim):
and this, from Rowan Classic Beach:
So I guess all three of those will be joining my book stash when they hit the shelves. (And yes, um, I am a cable/lace/texture girl at heart, but we knew that already!). Posted by Ann at February 6, 2006 11:50 AMComments
Oh, those are lovely. So that's where the good stuff has gone. I was truly underwhelmed with the preview I saw as well. Posted by: Shanti at February 6, 2006 01:47 PMThese are the sweaters I have been eyeing too, but your photos are much clearer than those I've seen. Thanks! Posted by: erin at February 6, 2006 08:11 PMbeautiful designs! definitely more my speed as well. although i am still holding out hope for rowan once i see the mag in person. Posted by: jody at February 7, 2006 03:26 AMSo funny to think about you and your yarn on the side of the Beltway! :) You have a lot of yarn, girl! (I have not done the addition, so I am not exactly sure how much I have...) Thank you for the lovely preview of the Rowan books - these seem to match my style so much better than in the Rowan mag! Hope you are well~ Posted by: Lolly at February 7, 2006 05:35 AMso beautiful...but if you could give me a drop of your patience to knit like that...I'm sure I could do it... lovely! Posted by: heather at February 8, 2006 12:00 PMI am astounded at the amount of yarn you have. I have to wonder how much fabric Marie has. What would be the right metric? Yards? Square Feet? Whatever amount she has, I am happy for her. I hope Jason is on your side, also. While I am amazed, I also completely understand the urge to acquire items (say, tools) that I have no hope or expectation of using. A good tool is a work of art to me. There is no such thing as too much raw material, I say. Posted by: TimDad at February 9, 2006 07:32 PMI love all of those designs. I really like the last one. Have you seen the yarn that goes with these yet? Are you going to knit one? Posted by: Diane at February 17, 2006 06:02 PM |
