September 19, 2005Happy Birthday to MeIt's now official - as of yesterday, I'm in my last year of my 20s. Weird. I guess I thought it would feel more ominous, but it doesn't. [I suppose it doesn't help that I told someone I was 29 like 3 months ago, and didn't even catch my own mistake.] I've always been told I seem older than I am... I guess that's good? There are only a few gray hairs, and they're far outshined by the beachy blonde ones, so I'm not too worried. I didn't do too much fantastic for my birthday, but that's okay. [In the past week we did buy a house and plane tickets to Hawaii. Ouch.] I slept in late, lounged about watching football for a bit, and then the boyfriend and I went furniture-shopping. We're trying to decide whether to keep our current living room furniture or find something different. We'd been leaning toward same, but then I sat in this and am now thinking, hmm, it would be nice to have a wide cozy chair to curl up and knit in. We shall see. [I think if I get this chair, the boyfriend gets a leather couch... you see how it all spirals out of control.] We ended up postponing any major decisions in favor of dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. Not too much knitting over the weekend, largely due to a morning wedding on Saturday. [Surprisingly, drinking a goodly amount of champagne at noon will completely wreck your ability to be productive for the rest of the day. Also will give you a horrible headache by late evening.] I am, however, pleased as punch to present the final, completed Retro Rib sock:
I love it! I finished it at Late Night on Wednesday and am really glad to knock this off my to-do list. It's so cozy and sproingy, it feels great on my feet. Hooray! And the ribs are nice and sophisticated:
Now, if I can just find its mate... I fear it's in the depths of the knitting basket, with who knows what else... And, I've spent some time on the Sunrise sweater sleeve - only about 20 rows from the sleeve cap shaping:
I realize it's a bit unorthodox to do the back and then a single sleeve, but I need to gauge how much yarn I'll have left out of half the total yardage. If it was a standard sweater, I'd be fine, but there's the issue of the hood... fingers crossed that I'll have enough to do the hood. Time will tell. *** Postscript: Celebrating this week the return of two of my favorite TV shows, Arrested Development and Lost. It's starting to feel like fall.... Love the sock! I'll bet they feel as good as they look. Happy Birthday! It's the NEXT one that'll get you but it's all good;-) Posted by: margene at September 19, 2005 11:39 AMHappy Birthday! I am right behind you with only 42days until my 29th birthday. Congrats on the house purchase (scary, you are an adult now!) and going to Hawaii (wonder if you could see any of the Lost castaways). And I would definitely get that chair. It looks so comfy! Posted by: Allison at September 19, 2005 01:01 PMHAPPY HAPPY belated birthday, Dear Ann! May the next 29 + 29 + 29 years all be full of great health and joy! Posted by: Rossana at September 19, 2005 02:25 PMHappy belated birthday, Ann!! ;) LOVE the sock. Those colors are so pretty and autumnal. Like you, I am counting down for Lost--I love that show! Have a good one~ Posted by: Lolly at September 20, 2005 06:58 AMHappy Birthday!!! I, too, am staring down the end of my 20's (I'll be 28 in April, but DH is 29 in a month). You seem to be taking it better than me! I'm gonna die when I hit 30... Posted by: Caryn at September 21, 2005 09:42 AMYour sock is gorgeous. I feel like i'ts a kid... I watched it grow up. :) Posted by: jaya at September 21, 2005 06:03 PM |
