August 24, 2005Garter-rificSo the garter is done - yay! I finished it last week at Late Night, but I spent some time this weekend searching for ribbon. I want to sew some elastic to the ribbon to hold it snug, and then fasten it with a snap at the end. Anyway, I came home with two ribbon options:
2. Blue rosebud ribbon. This is narrower, so the elastic could be more of a challenge. [The skinniest elastic I could find was 1/8" wide, and this ribbon is about 1/16. Do they make narrower elastic?]
What do you think? Cast your vote in the comments, please. **** In other news, Pinwheelio is officially staring down the finish line. I've started the edging, and I only have a few more rounds before the bindoff. Stay tuned for pictures of the finished blankie! Posted by Ann at August 24, 2005 07:50 AMComments
I'm leaning towards the one with rosettes. Very nice! Posted by: sharlyn at August 24, 2005 08:50 AMI like the rosebuds. Could you sew the elastic to the knitting instead of to the ribbon? Posted by: Cindy at August 24, 2005 09:09 AMI personally like the rosettes, but what kind of a girl is she? Does she like clean lines and classic shapes? If so I'd go with the plainer one. Posted by: jody at August 24, 2005 09:12 AMI love the rosebuds one. Very pretty, Ann! ;) Posted by: Lolly at August 24, 2005 09:21 AMI like the simple blue ribbon, since I'm not a rosebud kind of girl. If you go with the rosebuds, can you use some kind of elasticized thread or cord like this -- https://www.rings-things.com/cgi-bin/hazel/hazel.cgi?action=detail&item=61-390-01? (Similar to those skinny elastic cords that usually go around small gift boxes at the holidays, but in white.) Posted by: Danielle at August 24, 2005 09:30 AMI like the simple blue on also. The rosebuds are cute but a little fussy. Posted by: Jennifer at August 24, 2005 09:54 AMI like the look of the rosebuds. Yeah, I know, it's totally girlie. :) Posted by: Erin at August 24, 2005 10:51 AMI think you should use both. I like how the grosgrain fits in the eyelets so nicely, but I also like the rosettes. So, sew the elastic to the grosgrain, then tack the rosettes down the middle; or don't, they may not need to be attached. They may stay in the right place on their own. Posted by: Beth at August 24, 2005 10:59 AMThose rosebuds are so classic and beautiful. I would absolutely vote for those. What a lovely bridal gift! Posted by: Sarah at August 24, 2005 12:49 PMI like the simple blue ribbon, I think the garter itself is fancy enough. Posted by: grumperina at August 24, 2005 01:08 PMI vote for the plain. There's something too prissy about the rosebuds. Posted by: Amy at August 24, 2005 06:00 PMI also meant to say that the garter is really beautiful! What a nice present. Posted by: Amy at August 24, 2005 06:00 PMIT's a wedding! Go girly, go rosebuds! Posted by: Kristine at August 27, 2005 01:01 PMI would definitely say go for the plain because the rosebuds distract from the beauty of your knitting. Sometimes less is more. Posted by: Jenna at August 28, 2005 09:29 AMI know that I'm late here...but I vote for the rosebuds. Either way it will look beautiful ;) Posted by: Donna at August 29, 2005 06:20 AM |
